2019 Riesling Santa Lucia Highlands

Very light straw in color with a hint of electric lime green. The wine expresses white nectarine pits and flesh, fresh cut alfalfa and baby powder. Palate is golden apple flesh and green apple skin upfront and transitions to mid palate lychee, and finishes with shortbread cookie. As the wine opens you start to smell a very faint saffron quality on the nose that sits alongside the previous notes. - Caileen

Wine Profile
Winemaker Notes
Carrying on our style of an off-dry Riesling. Though 2019 was more arid than recent vintages, the intended style was achieved though there was little contribution from botrytis, which we love to include. The wines were fermented in 3 separate lots with yeast strains from Switzerland, Australia and Austria, and stopped at just the right residual sugar. Later integrated for aging, we introduced some Acacia wood barrels(the wood is actually black locust - Robinia pseudoacacia). This remains one of my favorite wines to make, and the 2019 is a delightful one to drink. -Mark H.
Food Pairing Notes
I suggest seared scallops with a lemongrass sauce topped with Thai basil or a cheese pizza with fried chili oil drizzled over the top. Drink now - 2025. -Caileen.
